Clarinda City Council talks street improvement and water sewer plant

The Clarinda City Council met last week.
Clarinda City Manager Gary McClarnon says the first steps in a street fixing plan were approved at the meeting.

"Then we got an engineering agreement for completing a street inventory, conditioning, surveying, and improvement plan.  We got an engineering company that's going to drive all our streets and give us a report on the condition of all the streets.  They'll rate them poor, fair, good, and excellent.  Once we get that report, then we will be able to do some long-range capital planning for street projects.  Still the price tag for that agreement was $18,900 and that was approved unanimously."

McClarnon also says the next phase of work on the new wastewater treatment plant is underway.

"This is something the engineering company will have to hire to do materials' testing for concrete, steel, and also dirt work for our new sewer plant."

Other issues included parking ticket increases and rezoning agricultural land to a heavy industrial zone. The next regularly scheduled meeting is October 23rd.
